When I first started teaching – I’m talking about 17 years ago here – I created a simple literacy center activity using construction paper and clothespins to review contractions. The contraction was written on the clothespin and students clipped its two matching word pairs together. Well, I decided to give it a major facelift and add an extra option to make it even more fun!
This center can be done without the clothesline board display you see above; that is just an added fun piece that is totally optional. But I thought it would be fun for kids to get that hands-on piece of adding the ‘laundry’ pieces to an actual clothesline! If you do want to make the board, I have included directions and board title lettering in the resource to make it a bit easier!
All you really need are the pieces, the clothespins, and the recording sheet. You don’t even have to use labels on the clothespins; you can just write the contractions on them using marker. But I do include labels just in case you want to use them.
This resource includes the following:

Happy Teaching!
