My main goal of 2018 is to get more comfortable in manual with my camera and to finally learn Photoshop. I’ve been working through some online courses and reading up on specifics that I’m still struggling with. I’m in the space now where I want to get out of my little bubble and actually start practicing a variety of styles of photography. Right now I’m not certain what my niche is, but I do have some areas that interest me more than others. So it’s time to get out there and practice…outside of just my own little bubble!
One of my friends, who is also interested in photography, asked if I’d like to do a Valentine’s Day-themed photo session with our kids and I enthusiastically said yes! We invited our mutual friend’s daughter to join in and the result was an adorable set of photos. The lifestyle/candid style of photography really resonates with me, and that is what we tried to accomplish with this session. It was a challenge because I’m still not 100% great with movement; I get blurry photos much of the time and it drives me nuts! But it was good practice, and I am happy with some of the shots I got. There is just something about capturing real, genuine moments that seem to normally slip by us, that intrigues me. I think you’ll see that we were really able to capture the kids’ personalities from this shoot!
Here are a few of my favorites:
We had a lot of fun with this session! We have another one planned with my friend’s daughter to do portraits out in the blooming almond tree orchards, so stay tuned!
