My friend and I did some more playing with the camera today and had a little photo session in the beautiful almond orchards that are in total bloom right now. They are gorgeous, and we just had to take advantage of the opportunity before their blooms fell off. My friend’s daughter was our subject and she did a great job braving the cold in her sleeveless dress!
The orchard is not far from where we live, but they had just begun irrigation when we started the shoot, so we had to hurry as to not get flooded with muddy water! We found a row that was decent and did all our shooting in about 20 minutes. We were able to catch the sun in its sweet spot and got some lovely images. But our shoes paid the price!
I was pretty happy with how these turned out. I do wish I would’ve gotten lower so the horizon would’ve landed closer to her middle rather than her neckline, but they will do. There are also some poses I forgot about that I wanted to do, but it’s all a learning process. I like being in the moment and having to make quick decisions. There is a little adrenaline rush that goes into that that I’m kind of crazy about. Every part of this process excites me! I’m enjoying exploring various genres of photography, as I am still trying to figure out my style. Can’t wait to do some more practicing!
Things I learned from this shoot:
-wear rain/hiking boots when shooting outdoors!
-have a list of poses ready
-pay attention to where the horizon sits in regard to the subject’s body position
Here are some of my favorites from our session:
And a bonus from behind the scenes! My friend trying to scrape off the mud from her Converse and her sweet daughter trying to get warm! (This is actually one of my favorite photos.)
