I love to teach writing! It can be hard sometimes, but I love seeing that spark when a child realizes what he/she is capable of putting on paper. Second grade is the year where students really begin to polish up their writing skills and start to explore more complex sentences. When introducing adding more details to writing, I wanted something simple that students could do in one class period. So, Expand-A-Sentence Writing Activity was born!
My students were able to follow this very easily. It includes an example that goes through the steps of WHO, WHAT, WHEN, and WHY to add details to one simple fragment. They have a recording page to walk them through the steps. By the end my students had some really wonderful sentences! You can view more info about the activity at one of my stores listed below.
