Hey everyone! We are now 3 weeks into the school year (already!) and all is going so well. I have a wonderful class of cutie pies that greet me with a smile every day! I am incredibly blessed! We’ve been busy at work learning how to be independent readers and building our read to self and read to someone stamina. For those that have never taught 7 year olds, this is a process and all of these behaviors must be explicitly taught and practiced over many weeks to ensure that the rest of the year goes smoothly!
I have quite a few little characters this year! Check out this confident dude:
And I was totally LOLing!
Anyway, I wanted to share my newest product on Teachers Pay Teachers: my Writing Goals Clip Chart! I normally use writing goals posters and stick students’ names on their current goals for them to keep track of. This year, however, I have a wide spectrum of writers and am in need of specific goals that are not included in other packs I have. In addition to that, I wanted to include writing prompts to be used for writing assessments that can be stuck in students’ data notebooks, as well as a teacher continuum to keep track of students’ progress through the goals.
Includes 5 writing prompts to be used at the very beginning of the year and at the end of each quarter. They are kept in students’ portfolios and are how I assess what their new writing goals should be after each grading period:
The continuum piece of this is what I like most and what sets this set apart from other clip charts. You start out at the beginning of the year by assessing students’ writing. On the continuum put a checkmark on each goal you see they will need in PENCIL. Then in BLACK go over only one goal for them to focus on first. Then reassess in the next quarter and go over in BLUE what their new goal will be, etc. I like this because it allows me to compare where they were at the beginning of the year to they are presently. Here’s a pic of what it looks like in action:
You can see how students have moved through their original goals. It also allows me to see who is NOT progressing, all helping to guide my instruction.

You can see every poster in the preview in my store.
Now, onto my classroom tour!
I’ve had a few family members asking me to give them the “tour” of my classroom this year, so here ya go!
We use Reading Counts at our school, which is similar to Accelerated Reader. As students pass quizzes on books they get stickers on their charts!
