For the last week we have been itching to go somewhere. Hubs has been so busy with everything and I’ve been cooped up in the hotel, so we decided to take a day trip. We decided to start small and head to Wiesbaden, which is about an hour away, to the Easter Market. Germans like their markets. They are definitely known for their Christmas markets, but we have found that they hold markets all year, and now just happens to be the time for the Easter markets! It’s great because the Eishens also like markets. One of our very favorite places we found on our trip to the UK two summers ago was the Borough Market in the heart of London. (Click HERE to see those pictures!)
We thought it was going to be a little more Easter-ey, but it was basically an open market along the city streets that happened to be around Easter. I guess the people dressed up as the Easter Bunny provided that touch. 🙂
We had a little bit of a hard time finding it at first, as it is located in a large city where EVERYONE parks on the street. Thank goodness for the GPS! Without it I don’t think we would’ve found any parking!
(I did learn that car theft is definitely an issue (thankfully not with our own). On the way back to the parking garage a guy was walking very quickly up to a random car parked on the side of the road. He checked the passenger door, then the driver door, then walked off. There were so many people around no one probably noticed but me. Yikes!)
Basically they closed some main roads off and had tons of vendors amidst all of the other stores. But they had loads of shopping without the market including a LUSH (my favorite store EVER) and an H&M! There was a lot of fun stuff to look at from about 50 different kinds of honey to handmade cleaning brushes. And there was a bakery literally at every corner. Flatbreads, crepes, pretzels, you name it. We found that curry wurst is very popular here. We didn’t know what it was, so Ian went ahead and bought some. Basically it is cut up bratwurst in a catsup/bbq sauce mixed with curry powder. Then they give you a baked roll for you to eat it in. The sauce was pretty tasty! I had a crepe with Nutella in it. Yummy! And a chocolate drizzled belgian waffle? Okay!
