So we are moving into our new house tomorrow, which I am excited about! To finally have a place of our own where we don’t have to worry about upstairs neighbors running around making it sound like a stampede of elephants above us or doors slamming all day long…We are more than ready.
But…I am getting very close to at that point where I really miss our stuff. They (the USAF) is making us move into our house before our unaccompanied baggage has even arrived. I guess we found a house quicker than normal and so they went ahead and scheduled the delivery of our temporary furniture, even though we don’t have basic stuff like kitchen utensils and bed linens. Hubs asked them if we could stay in the hotel until at least that stuff arrived, and they said, “Sure! Just give us $90 a day. (THUMBS UP)” So we headed to the BX to grab a bunch of random necessities, which annoys me a little since we have all of this stuff in our unaccompanied baggage and I hate having excess stuff that we don’t need. But, it is what it is, so we are going with the flow because WE ARE IN GERMANY.
Wanna know what borrowed military furniture looks like? Oh, it’s awesome.
We will be without internet and tv for a little while, so that will be interesting. Funny how much of our lives revolve around our electronic devices! I just don’t like the not knowing part. We’ve called about the status of the internet hookup and they really like to give us the run around. I heard that they do take their time here with such things….turns out that is true!
I did get my car today! Yay for freedom! I’m still a little road shy, though. I feel like my mind is in 50 different places when I’m driving here. The speed limits change all the time and you have to be very mindful of them because they have speed cameras everywhere! And they are hidden! I’ll get my bearings, it’s just going to take me a little while. Here’s my new little beauty:
We also checked on Thing 1’s school situation. We have been wanting to put him in German school for the remainder of this school year since I am not working and he is doing just fine academically. We drove by the school today to see if we could get him enrolled and they are on spring recess and won’t be back until April 8! Poor kid is ready to get back in school. He has been so bored! I think we are going to go ahead and wait it out because I think the experience is just too good to pass up. The only concern is I don’t know if they will even take him, but I was reassured by the base’s school liaison that most schools around here are very welcoming of American children, especially at his age. So, more waiting on that end.
This weekend we are going to head to IKEA and get some of the big stuff we know we need. We have two near us, both about 45 minutes away. Yay for IKEA shopping! I’m just itching to really get settled. I just have to be patient a little longer. But it is coming together little by little!
Until next time (hopefully that won’t be TOO long)…
