I just got back from spending five days in the cutest town ever – Charleston, SC! I went sailing for the first time, ate like a glutton, and finally got to dig my toes in the sand again. It had been way too long.
We stayed on the Isle of Palms, which is a narrow strip of land and beaches separated from the mainland by a waterway. It is gorgeous and is home to both residents and visitors. We got a suite in an adorable hotel and were just a small walk from the beach.
I will always remember this because I got up super early to watch William and Kate’s wedding on that sofa!
One of my favorite parts of our trip visiting The Magnolia Plantation. It was gorgeous and was filled with huge redwoods adorned with drooping Spanish moss. Those that have read my novel in full know why I loved that so much. The entire place was absolutely magical and really effing hot.
This will always be one of my favorite pictures of us:
The next day we got to go sailing, which was so much fun! It our first time and everyone enjoyed it, except for my hair. We got a meal on the boat, which turned out to be kind of weird tasting, but it was still nice. They even let my son steer the boat for a bit! He thought that was the coolest thing ever.
We toured downtown by horse carriage, which was really great. The tour guide was fantastic and gave us a lot of stories about the houses we passed by.
A friend of mine had recommended a dessert joint called Kasinsky’s and we found it! Oh man, they DID NOT disappoint! I mean, for real:
For lunch we ate at the famous Magnolia’s, and it was wonderful!
Sorry, flounder. I ate you, and you were delicious.
Fried chicken, mashed potatoes and heaps of mac and cheese. It doesn’t get more comfort food than that, people.
But our favorite place we ate at: CRAVE, which is closer to the Isle of Palms and not in downtown. We just happened to find it in a shopping center, of all places, but y’all. It was AMAZING food! Beat anything we ate downtown, in my opinion!
The next day we visited the Children’s Museum of the Lowcounty, which was awesome! My son LOVED it! They had tons of different areas to explore, from a huge art room where kids have free reign to create, to a medieval castle, to a pirate ship and even an entire water area.
Seriously, who wouldn’t want to create in here? I want this room in my house.
Afterwards we ate at Cupcake Downsouth for some yummy dessert! Since it was the weekend of William and Kate’s wedding, they had some to help celebrate!
We had the BEST time in Charleston and look forward to visiting again in the future!
Happy Traveling!

I like listening to music while I write, too! And I LOVED Water for Elephants. The movie, I mean. I haven't read the book yet. But it's on my list! 🙂
